As far as personal computer storage technology is concerned, cluster refers to the logical unit of file storage right on a hard disk. This is generally controlled by the operating system of a computer. Any file that is stored on the hard disk of a computer uses one or more than one clusters of storage. In fact, the clusters of a single file can be placed on different locations within the hard disk. It’s important to keep track of the clusters that are associated with a single file. This is usually done on the file allocation table (FAT) of the hard disk. When someone reads a specific file, that file is obtained for the reader. How a Server Cluster works?
Server clusters require network technologies which make use of IP based protocols. A server cluster usually depends on some basic elements of a network infrastructure. For instance, it might depend on an active directory service. It can also depend on a Domain Name System (DNS) or a Windows Internet Name Service (WINS). While using a server cluster, you must keep this in mind that a cluster server doesn’t support the use of IP addresses that are assigned from a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server or any other IP address resources. This is why it’s advisable to use a static IP address for all the cluster systems.
Let’s know about the different types of server clusters
Broadly speaking, there are three types of server clusters. Based on these, the cluster systems, also known as nodes, are connected to relevant devices. These devices store the data and the cluster configuration. The data should be stored in a way so that it allows each of the active nodes to obtain the data properly even if one or multiple nodes are down. Usually, all the data is stored on a single resource and that is known as quorum resource. The data that is stored on the quorum resource includes a batch of cluster configuration information. It also keeps a track of the most recent changes that are made to the configuration. A node that comes online after an outage can use the quorum resource. In fact, it can be used as the concrete resource for all the recent changes that have been made to the configuration. The different types of server clusters include majority node set cluster, single quorum device cluster (also known as standard quorum cluster) and a local quorum cluster (also known as single node cluster).Tags:
